Foldly Support

Origami for children, on iPhone. You watch a fold happen slowly on screen, then make the same fold in real paper.

We read everything and usually reply within 48 hours. Telling us your iPhone model and iOS version helps. If a particular fold is not working in real paper, say which project and which step number โ€” that is exactly the sort of thing we want to hear about.

What stays free

Foldly has 23 projects. Three of them are free forever, with no account, no trial and no time limit:

Everything the app can do is in those three: the animation, the slow-motion, the step-back, the spoken instructions. They are complete projects, not demos that stop halfway.

The unlock

WhatPriceBilling
Everything Unlocked$5.99One time. It never renews.

That is the US App Store price and may differ in your region โ€” the app shows your local price before you buy. There is no subscription in Foldly, and there is nothing else to buy after this.

I already paid โ€” how do I get it back?

Open any locked project, pass the grown-ups step, and tap Restore a purchase. Make sure the iPhone is signed in with the Apple Account that paid. If it still does not unlock, email us with that Apple Account address and we will sort it out.

Does my family have to buy it twice?

No. The unlock supports Family Sharing, so everyone in your Apple family group gets all 23 projects on their own device at no extra cost.

Refunds

Apple handles refunds for App Store purchases, not us. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. If something did not work as described, please tell us as well so we can fix it.

Paper

What paper do I need?

A square. Proper origami paper is thin and folds crisply, and 6 x 6 inch (15 x 15 cm) suits every project in the app. Coloured on one side and white on the other is ideal, because several models use that contrast โ€” the penguin's white front, the duck's pale tail.

We only have printer paper

That works. Every project has a "Only have printer paper?" link on its materials screen that shows how to turn an A4 or Letter sheet into a square in two folds and one tear. The Sailor Hat and the Paper Boat are the exceptions โ€” they want a rectangle, so printer paper is already the right shape.

Bigger paper for the hat and the helmet

The Sailor Hat and the Samurai Helmet are worth making from a large sheet โ€” newspaper is traditional โ€” because at that size they actually fit a child's head.

Following a fold

It went past too quickly

Every step has Replay, Pause and a Speed control that slows the fold to half pace. Back returns to the previous step as many times as you like. Nothing is timed and nothing is scored, so taking twenty minutes over one fold costs nothing.

My child cannot read yet

Every instruction is read aloud. The Voice button on each step replays it. The narration is recorded and ships inside the app, so it works with the phone in aeroplane mode.

My paper does not look like the screen

Tap Back and watch the previous step again with the speed slowed down โ€” a fold that lands a few millimetres off usually traces to the step before it. If the picture and the paper still disagree, email us the project and the step number. We would genuinely rather know.

For grown-ups

Nothing in Foldly can spend money without an adult.

Anything that leads to a purchase sits behind a step that shows four digits spelled out as words โ€” SEVEN THREE ONE NINE โ€” and asks you to tap them in. A child who cannot yet read cannot get past it, and it is deliberately dull rather than a puzzle worth solving.

There is also nothing else to tap through to: no adverts anywhere in the app, no cross-promotion, no links out to other apps or websites, and no way for anyone to contact your child.

Privacy

Nothing about your child leaves the phone.

There is no account, no sign-in and no profile. Foldly has no networking code of its own and no third-party code in it, so there is no mechanism by which anything could be sent anywhere. The only network use is Apple's own App Store, handling the one-time purchase. We collect no analytics, because there is nothing in the app that could collect any.

Photos you take of a finished model are saved on the device, in the app. They are not uploaded, and we never see them.

Common questions

Does it work without internet?

Yes, completely. Every project and every spoken instruction is already on the device before you start. The only thing that needs a connection is the one-time purchase.

Is there an iPad version?

Not yet โ€” Foldly is an iPhone app today. It runs on iPad in iPhone compatibility mode, but it is not designed for that screen. If you would use an iPad version, tell us; that is how it gets prioritised.

What age is it for?

Roughly five and up with an adult alongside, and seven or eight upwards alone. The projects are ordered easiest first โ€” the envelope is four folds, the boat and the jumping frog are a good deal more.

Are the folds real origami?

Yes. They are traditional models, and every fold in the app is checked against what a sheet of paper can actually do before it ships โ€” including whether the paper can physically lie flat at every crease.

Something is broken, or a project is missing
